Course Syllabus

                                  7th Grade Geography Course Overview/Syllabus


Through the study of Geography, 7th grade students will learn about the physical, political, and human aspects of our world with the intent of building a global perspective; therefore, enabling students to make connections between worldwide and local events.

 

The first half of the school year will focus on basic geographic principles, such as

                - basic map components and skills, such as latitude and longitude

                - locations of the continents and ocean and major world landforms

                - the 5 themes of Geography

                - theories about how the earth was formed and changed throughout time

                 and came to be as it is today

                - time zones

                - climate and factors that affect it

                - vegetation regions

                - demography

                - culture (with an emphasis on world religions)

                - government and economic systems

                - natural resources of our world and economic activities

 

The second half of the year will focus on applying those principles to specific countries, regions, etc.   In addition, it will emphasis learning locations on maps (both political and physical) and will include the study of the following:

                -the 50 US states, major cities, landforms, etc

                - Canada

                - Latin America

                - Europe

                - the Middle East

                - If time allows, we may also briefly cover other regions of the world.
